The Coast Hills Running Club serves communities along the Oregon Coast, mainly those near Newport and Lincoln City. In addition to providing group run opportunities, the Coast Hills Running Club hosts races including the Coast Festival Run in February (in conjunction with the Seafood and Wine Festival), the Loyalty Days Run in May, and the Free Flight Run in October; and supports events like the Newport Marathon. We also have a summer training series starting in mid-June; club picnic runs; monthly First Saturday runs, and a winter trail run series. Groups also form around training for a specific event, such as the Newport Marathon and the Lincoln City Half Marathon in March.

The purpose of the club is to help connect runners in the Lincoln County/central coast area for running activities. CHRC can provide a runner new to the area contacts for running groups and running routes around Newport. Membership is open to all age groups and all paces, and walkers are welcome! At present there are about 35 members.

Coast Hills Running Club is a member of the Road Runners Club of America which is the national association of running clubs, running events, and runners dedicated to promoting running as a competitive sport and as healthful exercise. The RRCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Frequently Asked Questions: How does the club support your running community?

All money raised from races goes to support youth running. We help pay for student participation fees, assist in purchasing equipment for the Newport High School Cross-Country team, and provide funds for running shoes and summer running camp registration fees for high school athletes. We have instituted a 250 miles for $50 program for Lincoln County Youth. At the Loyalty Days Run, we give $500 to the school with the largest percentage of students who participate in the race. Other charities we have supported are Relay for Life and local events to raise money for local people with medical problems. We also use our equipment and expertise to help other community events, such as the Newport High School off-road triathlon and the Toledo Wooden Boat Festival Challenge Run.

Can anyone show up to group runs?

Anyone can show up for a club run, although if it's a run with food (like the Paddy Dodger in March), there may be a small fee, and we like to have an RSVP so we know how much food to get. We welcome any and all runners who are visiting or new to the area contact Tom Swinford at lifework@hughes.net about potential running companions or upcoming events.

What are the benefits of being a member?

Members enjoy race entry discounts, inclusion in all newsletters, and priority on any relay team that the club puts together. Membership is $5/yr for students, $15/yr for adults, and $20/yr for families.
